Kennedy/Jenks Receives AAEE Grand Award

Adding to the growing list of honors, Kennedy/Jenks received a Grand Award in Planning from the American Academy of Environment Engineers (AAEE) for the Oregon ACWA Energy Independence Project. Senior Principal David Kennedy accepted the trophy for Kennedy/Jenks from AAEE President, Dr. Debra Reinhart on May 6, 2009 at the Academy’s Excellence in Environmental Engineering Awards Luncheon in Washington, D.C.

AAEE presented the Grand Award to Kennedy/Jenks for a groundbreaking study that was prepared for Oregon ACWA and funded by Energy Trust of Oregon. Using the Gresham and Corvallis WWTPs as demonstration plants, Kennedy/Jenks reviewed how WWTPs can become energy independent by optimizing energy efficiency measures and implementing a range of renewable resources. Although the recommendations were specific to the Gresham and Corvallis plants, they were designed for use by any WWTP in the country that wants to become energy-independent.

The prize-winning project has gained nation-wide recognition for Oregon ACWA and for the Kennedy/Jenks project team, headed by Energy Services Leader Alan Zelenka. Alan was recently invited to provide expert testimony to the U.S. Congress before the House Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment.

The Oregon ACWA Energy Independence Project also received the 2009 Project of the Year Award from ACEC Oregon. Read more.
