The Expertise to Help You
Modernize and Expand

A Broad Range of Engineering Services

Security, fuel costs, environmental regulations, declining profits, all these issues face the aviation industry today. This is one of the most challenging periods for the industry making the need for an experienced, trusted engineering consultant even greater than before. Kennedy / Jenks Consultants has a diverse and multidisciplinary staff experienced in responding to wide-ranging aviation-industry engineering needs.

Kennedy/Jenks has proven our ability to meet these needs. We know how to help airports modernize and expand facilities – from overall planning to construction, from engineering to environmental permitting, from facilities to utilities.

“Approximately $100 million of utility work was designed, built, and completed on schedule . . . Their [Kennedy/Jenks’] project work met all the airport’s goals.”
Michael Lane, Project Manager for Airport Utilities Project, San Francisco International Airport

Cost-Effective Ways to Enhance Security

The need for increased security has dramatically changed operations at our nation’s airports. Kennedy/Jenks provides smart and effective consulting and solutions, tailored to meet security needs while minimizing operational roadblocks. We offer expertise in planning and design to accommodate new FAA security requirements; geographic information system (GIS) applications for security response plans; and – drawing on our many decades of experience with water, wastewater, and other utilities – effective methods to evaluate, protect, and design utilities.

A Tradition of Pioneering Technology

Kennedy/Jenks has a tradition of pioneering technology and customizing our solutions to meet the specific needs of airports.

Three examples of our expertise are in de-icing runoff management, application of sophisticated, useful information management tools, and apron design and construction.

  • De-icing Runoff/Stormwater Management - Kennedy/Jenks provided the Portland International Airport (PDX) with conceptual and final design and construction services for an innovative, efficient de-icing/stormwater management system that meets stringent new NPDES permit requirements.

“ . . . our de-icing runoff management system is one of the most sophisticated in the nation.” -- William Allen, Manager, Project Development, Portland International Airport, Port of Portland

  • Integrated Utility Geo-Database – For the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, we created a database in which the entire airport system is depicted in a single master drawing for each utility. Each drawing links to updatable records of key attributes. This robust geographic information system (GIS) enables visualization, analysis, and modeling. Unique, rapid, two-way linkage between AutoCAD and ArcGIS provides the best functionalities of both applications. The database is integrated into an online airport management and mapping system, yielding a powerful tool for asset management and advanced planning and construction support.
  • North Field Apron Design and Construction – Kennedy/Jenks led a team of geotechnical and pavement engineers to design and provide construction support for a new aircraft parking apron between Hangars 7 and 8 at the Oakland International Airport’s North Field. The project incorporated partial pavement overlays as well as pavement reconstruction design. A key design consideration was the expansive soils and bay mud underlying the airport property due to its shoreline location. The project included coordination with the Airport’s tenants as well as the Port’s various utilities, real estate leasing and security staff. The project included the relocation of AOA fence, and relocation and replacement of sewer and storm drain services as well as electrical and telecommunications services under the new apron.
