Claudia Llerandi is a California-licensed civil engineer with over a decade of experience helping communities build smarter, more sustainable water systems. She is a Principal at KJ and the Lead for Water Reuse and Recycling division. Her passion lies in creating solutions that make cities more resilient to climate change and water scarcity because she knows water is the backbone of thriving communities.

Claudia brings deep technical expertise across the full life cycle of water supply and reuse projects, from planning feasibility studies to obtaining regulatory permits, to developing design, completing construction, commissioning, and operations. Her work includes non-potable and potable reuse, advanced water purification, aquifer recharge and desalination, with a consistent focus on balancing cost, energy use, and environmental impact to identify practical, long-term solutions for our communities.

With a BS in Chemical Engineering from Simón Bolívar University and an MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UC Davis, Claudia combines technical expertise with a big-picture vision. She has spent her career designing and implementing recycled and purified water systems that reduce dependence on imported supplies and strengthen local water security.

Claudia has led large, complex water reuse programs for major urban utilities as well as smaller-scale water districts. Claudia has shaped regional water reuse strategies and helped cities plan for drought resilience. She has worked on hydraulic modeling, demand analysis, and long-term infrastructure planning, and helped draft local ordinances to integrate water reuse into urban development. Her experience includes preparing master plans and feasibility studies, overseeing design of new treatment facilities, developing operations plans, collaborating with regulators for permit approvals and coordinating system retrofits to safely integrate recycled water into existing infrastructure.

Known for her ability to bridge technical rigor with stakeholder collaboration, Claudia has been an active member of WateReuse since 2014. Her work reflects a commitment to practical, forward-thinking solutions and a belief that sustainable water practices are key to building stronger, more adaptable communities.
